統一獅新球季找來新面孔洋投─勝騎士（Mario Sanchez），來自委內瑞拉的他，休賽季在委內瑞拉冬季聯盟表現十分出色，登板11場全是擔任先發角色，防禦率2.38、WHIP 0.90，56.2局只被擊出44支安打（3轟），34張老K、僅7次保送。
這樣的成績，已足夠讓勝騎士稱霸委內瑞拉冬盟，拿下防禦率王以及年度最佳投手獎項。吃下的局數是全聯盟最多、三振則居第二、WHIP最佳，4.86的K/BB值在所有超過20局的投手中名列第三，以近況來說，調整相當到位。

而勝騎士來到中華職棒，確定至少會有一位「老朋友」─中信兄弟的洋投泰樂（Tyler Viza），兩人去年球季都待在雙城小聯盟。泰樂2A出發，季中登上3A接著被中信兄弟簽下，勝騎士則是全年都待在雙城3A（Saints），更巧的是，兩人還是1994年10月出生的「同梯」。

28歲的勝騎士去年在3A時先發後援兩邊跑，泰樂當時則是牛棚定位，可惜他們剛好未曾同場登板過，但再追溯到2017年，他倆也在費城人2A當過隊友、同場登板過，緣分甚深的彼此，今年球季有機會在中職戰場上演「昔日隊友同場先發較勁」的戲碼。

勝騎士的球速不算快，變化球種有曲球和變速球，三振率普通（生涯小聯盟累積674.1局僅564K），主要靠控球功夫與打者周旋，保送率低，仰仗守備，值得注意的是數據呈現偏「飛球型投手」、「對右打者的壓制力尤其傑出」，且看他的適應能力如何、新球季能提供統一獅多大的幫助吧！
